Youth Criminalization

Georgia is one of 5 states that still charge 17 year old young people as adults. By putting our youth in the adult prison system, they don’t have the adequate rehabilitation and healthcare needs that would be provided in a juvenile justice system. Youth in adult prisons also have a much higher rate of being sexually assaulted.

We need to fix this by raising the age of adult prosecution from 17 to 18 years old and working with local prosecutors for comprehensive rehabilitation and diversion programs.
