🙌 Say hello, to our new policy advisor, BRIAN NÚÑEZ!

What inspired you to get involved in civic engagement? Making sure that young voices were heard through the election process is what inspired me to get involved in civic engagement during my sophomore year of college. My fraternity ΛΘΦ (Lambda Theta Phi) was founded on the principle of giving a voice to the voiceless and the best way to do that is by making sure our communities are voting. The 2012 presidential election was my first big civic engagement push and I was able to register about 250 students on my college campus. If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why? If I could meet any historical figure, I would love to meet Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. She made history as the first Latina in the highest court of the land and overcame many extremely hard obstacles in her life, but nevertheless she persevered. Her drive, as well as her humility are things that inspire me to strive for the stars and it is definitely a goal of mine to meet her one day. What are three things still left on your bucket list? Three things that are still left in my bucket list are: 1.Going skydiving. 2.Create my own political nonprofit in the future. 3.Travel to Morocco and Thailand. If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose? If I could have any superpower, I would choose teleportation because I would love to instantly travel from one place to another. Snapshot Bio:I was born and raised until the age of 12 in Santiago, Dominican Republic by two loving parents, alongside...

One of the craziest days under the Gold Dome, this eventful day will be Thursday, March 7th. We are now at 324 bills in the House and 110 bills in the Senate. Here are some of the bills making the most buzz 🐝: HB 234: Anti-Human Trafficking Act 🚫As we all may know, Atlanta and the state are unfortunately a hub for human trafficking. This bill is the most comprehensive effort to tackle this grave problem that is plaguing our city. The bill will not only give more power to DFCS to protect the kids at risk, but it also modifies the definition of prostitution. Currently our law does not provide an age as to...

As we told you in the last issue, the legislators were on their best behavior in order to not bring any controversies while all this attention was on the city. However, that quickly changed this week with the high amount of bills introduced and we have now passed the 200 mark on the House side. Here are some of the bills making the most buzz 🐝: SB 10: Marijuana Decriminalization 🍃Those found to be in possession of less half an ounce of marijuana would receive a citation, similar to a traffic ticket, if the bill passes. Your weekly source of fresh tea poured out of the Gold Dome!  February 2, 2019  Welcome back Tea Sippers! This is our second edition of the 2019 Gold Dome Tea newsletter. Well this coalition is not slowing down as State Sens. Renee Unterman (R) and Nan Orrock (D) have filed legislation in the Senate that would ratify the Equal Rights Amendment that was approved by Congress in the 1970s. You would think that having an amendment that guarantees equal rights to all Americans regardless of sex would be a pretty easy thing to pass right? Welp let me tell you that for years Democratic senators have tried and tried, but it has failed to gain any traction in Georgia. However this year it might be different because 6 Republican male Senators are actually co-sponsoring Unterman’s resolution. As Senator Chuck Hufstetler (R of Rome) mentioned “passing the amendment is the best way to ensure equal treatment,” so it seems like it would be gain more traction than ever before and Georgia can make history by being...
