What inspired you to get involved in civic engagement? Making sure that young voices were heard through the election process is what inspired me to get involved in civic engagement during my sophomore year of college. My fraternity ΛΘΦ (Lambda Theta Phi) was founded on the principle of giving a voice to the voiceless and the best way to do that is by making sure our communities are voting. The 2012 presidential election was my first big civic engagement push and I was able to register about 250 students on my college campus. If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why? If I could meet any historical figure, I would love to meet Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. She made history as the first Latina in the highest court of the land and overcame many extremely hard obstacles in her life, but nevertheless she persevered. Her drive, as well as her humility are things that inspire me to strive for the stars and it is definitely a goal of mine to meet her one day. What are three things still left on your bucket list? Three things that are still left in my bucket list are: 1.Going skydiving. 2.Create my own political nonprofit in the future. 3.Travel to Morocco and Thailand. What inspired you to get involved in civic engagement? Observing and having conversations about the different views, perspectives, and situations of civic life made me realize that there is a difference that need to be made; not only in my community but communities in the surrounding area…….and because of that I wanted to be part of developing change. If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why? Amina, the Queen of Zaria; she was a Nubian leader and an awesome warrior from Africa, need I say more? How do you recharge?  Peaceful meditation and prayer, a journal, and maybe a light jog to clear space for new things. What are three things still left on your bucket list? Three things still left on my bucket list are to visit my original birth place (Spain), have a sit down with Oprah, and travel to one of the Greek Islands! If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose? If I had to choose a superpower, it would be the power to be superhuman. What inspired you to get involved in civic engagement? After graduating I was looking for a way to actually make a difference and I believe that civic engagement will give me the opportunity to be more involved with the community as well as make a difference. If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why? I would like to meet Martin Luther King Jr. because he was proof that you can solve problems without violence and I really admire what he was able to accomplish in his short time here. How do you recharge? I really enjoy doing new art projects to recharge and relax. Whether it be doing a portrait, painting, or something completely new, I find art to be very calming and a way to clear my mind.
